The most viewed title in the ITFA Library

When Paul Bakker and I set up the International Textile Flooring Academy our wish was to provide a platform for passing on real industry experience and knowledge.

We assembled over 3000 pages of technical and marketing information, all of which resides in ITFA’s excellent online Library.

But our intention was to also feature original publications, papers and training courses that were authored by leading industry figures, specialists in their fields and industry professionals.

We are so pleased that many such individuals have contributed to the Academy; they also share our vision of passing on experience and knowledge.

One Library item that is viewed more than any other at the moment is To be a Carpet Designer by Tracey Bentham.

Tracey has for more than 30 years worked as a designer in the carpet industry. She is very experienced in axminster, tufted, rug and printed design. She has held senior design management positions, but has always been a hands-on designer when it comes to understanding the art of practical and creative design in a carpet production environment.

To be a Carpet Designer covers a commentary on setting out as a designer, the rules of design, such as size, scale, quality, colour, trends, pattern, design repeat and yarn. But also areas that can only be written about with real experience, such as commercial awareness and the relationship between designer and the manufacturing process.

This 20-page document is suitable for people who want a career in design or who are existing designers. It is also highly recommended for staff who want to understand the design process as well as those in product development, manufacturing, marketing and sales.

We are proud to have professionals like Tracey working with ITFA. It is great to be able to provide a platform for providing experience and knowledge that helps the Carpet and rug industry of tomorrow.
